How mini can a miniskirt be?

In the little Italian town of Castellammare di Stabia, that is up to the mayor and law enforcement officials to decide. You can no longer wear a teeny tiny miniskirt on the streets on this town.

Two days ago, about 50 women protested in defense of woman’s rights in front of the town’s City Hall, where the city council was called to vote on the controversial regulation. The legislation to ban “skimpy” and “slutty” clothing was approved by the council 17-9.

The mayor  got his way when the city council approved a ban on football games in public parks and squares, blasphemy out loud, and “very skimpy clothes.”

The Mayor, Luigi Bobbio, said it’s not the miniskirt, itself, that’s banned in the regulation, “just the really slutty ones.”

These teeny tiny miniskirts would not be acceptable in this town.

“It’s a matter of common sense, of common decency,” he said.

Mayor Bobbio said that miniskirts and other provocative outfits will still be allowed as long as they are not too revealing.

These miniskirts would probably be more than acceptable to the town mayor.

Miniskirts will be fine unless it is so small that it is virtually non-existent as a skirt and leaves the underwear (or female “landscape” in the case of those not wearing panties) visible. Bobbio insists, “the skirt is absolutely allowed and permitted. The regulation is not aimed at banning this or that piece of clothing, but to give the city and precise coordinates of the citizens of civilized behavior to respect the freedom of each and therefore the freedom of all. ”

The measures also include a ban on playing football in public spaces – Bobbio says these games often turn into fights – sunbathing or undressing in town, blasphemy and foul language in general. Men cannot go around shirtless, the rules say. It will be also forbidden to play football in parks and purchase alcohol after 10 p.m.

Violations can be punished with a fine of up to euro500 ($700). The measures go into force immediately, Bobbio said.

I am sure everyone knows what a miniskirt is but in the most unlikely event that there are people who are not sure what a miniskirt is, here is the definition of a miniskirt. A miniskirt or mini-skirt is a skirt with a hemline well above the knees – generally no longer than 10 cm (4 in) below the buttocks of a woman. And how would you define a woman? My English teacher from my secondary school days had this unique definition of a woman: A woman is a perpendicular biological phenomenon in shorts skirt. By extrapolation, a woman is therefore a perpendicular biological phenomenon in miniskirt!

Skirts had been getting shorter since about 1958 – a development Mary Quant considered to be practical and liberating, allowing women the ability to run for a bus. Mary Quant ran a popular clothes shop in Kings Road, Chelsea, London, called Bazaar, from which she sold her own designs. In the late 1950s she began experimenting with shorter skirts, culminating in the creation of the miniskirt in 1965.

The miniskirt, which she is arguably most famous for, became one of the defining fashions of the 1960s. Mary Quant named the miniskirt after her favorite make of car, the Mini. She loved the car so much, she had one designed especially for her.

Owing to Quant’s position in the heart of fashionable “Swinging London”, the miniskirt was able to spread beyond a simple street fashion into a major international trend.
