Satoshi Furukawa, an astronaut with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, created history with a out-of-this-world game of one-man baseball on the International Space Station.

In weightless conditions, Furukawa pitched, then propelled himself to the other end of a capsule, overtaking the ball as he went, before picking up a bat and making clean contact before completing the play by catching his own shot.

The 47-year-old landed safely in Kazakhstan, with two fellow astronauts, on Tuesday.

It was George Graham Vest who, in 1870, said, “The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog.”

Dogs have been touted to be man’s best friend. And a dog in China has shown that he is indeed his master’s best friend.

His owner Lao Pan, who died aged 68 earlier this month, lived alone in a little house in the village of Panjiatun with just the dog for company.

In a tear-jerking display of loyalty, this faithful yellow dog cannot bear to be parted from his master, refusing to leave his late master’s graveside even after going seven days without food.

Why do people like to make fun of blondes?

On one hand, blonde hair in women has been considered attractive and desirable. On the other hand, a blonde woman is often perceived as making little use of intelligence, as a “woman who relied on her looks rather than on intelligence.”

There is an abundance of dumb blonde jokes. Here is a sampling of such jokes:

Dumb Blonde Joke 1

A person went into the office kitchen one morning and found a new blonde girl painting the walls. She was wearing a new fur coat and a nice denim jacket.

Thinking this was a little strange, he asked her why she was wearing them rather than old clothes or an overall.

She showed him the instructions on the tin,

“For best results, put on two coats”.

Dumb Blonde Joke 2

A blonde was driving down the road listening to the radio and was quite upset when she heard blonde joke after blonde joke. A little way down the road, she saw another blonde out in a field rowing a boat. The blonde stopped her car and angrily jumped out yelling,

“You dumb blonde bimbo! It’s blondes like you that give the rest of us a bad name! If I could swim I’d come out there and give you what’s coming to you!”

Jutting out from a sheer rock face 4,700 ft high, the glass skywalk in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park makes knees go weak and is definitely not for the faint-hearted and those who suffer from vertigo.

The skywalk

The walkway, made of tempered glass about 2.5 in thick, spans 200 ft of a two-km loop encircling the vertical cliffs of Tianmen Mountain in China’s Hunan province, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Tianmen mountain, literally translated as Heavenly Gate Mountain is so called because of a huge natural cave that occurs halfway up to the summit.

Brit Wong and Drew Burant, both 29, are hockey fanatics. He’s an Edmonton Oilers fan who grew up with the game in Regina, and she’s a figure-skater-turned-hockey player who’s a Vancouver Canucks fan.

So when they tied the knot on September 3 at Killarney Ice Rink in Vancouver, it was a hockey-themed affair with a matrimonial faceoff.

“You walk into a church, and everything’s there for you. So there’s a lot of work that went into this,” said Brit, “and on top of that, the fear of people falling; or of me, falling in my dress.”

She hit on this idea during a typical night watching “Hockey Night” in Canada on a Saturday, wondering aloud if “it would be cool to get married on a rink.”

“Brittany plans special events for a living. She kicked me to the curb for a lot of events wedding-wise. It probably helped the process,” said Drew.

So the plan was put in motion, despite some “are you serious?” reactions and questions about how, exactly, the bride is supposed to skate down the aisle in a wedding dress.

“We had to alter the dress quite a bit. It was just high enough where you could see the tips of my skates,” she said.

As for the ceremony itself: The seven-person wedding party were all on skates, while the guests were seated in chairs adorned with rally towels and some blankets in case the guests got the chills. “We did write on our invitations, ‘Dress warm,’” said the bride. “We were prepared.”

The wedding took place at center ice, featuring some usual and unusual aspects to the vows. “After we did our rings, we did the ceremonial puck drop, we did our first kiss and then skated out to the Oilers goal horn and goal song,” said Brit.

Since they skated away to the Oilers’ goal song, the puck used during the ceremonial puck drop had a Canucks logo.

“The puck drop was … awkward. I don’t think our Justice of the Peace understood how to do a faceoff,” she said, “and Andrew was more concerned about winning the faceoff than smiling for the cameras. He’s like, ‘I can’t let my boys down and lose the faceoff.’”

The wedding photos took place around the rink, including some with the groom in the penalty box.

He also was able to live a “childhood dream” with a professional photographer: Teaming up with his buddies for the “snow shower on the camera” shot on the ice.

After photos, it was off to a local country club for the reception, where the hockey theme continued. Each member of the wedding party had a jersey with a number, and was introduced as being “from your Edmonton Oilers” or “from your Vancouver Canucks.” Brit and Drew were the captains.

The cupcake stand feature hockey sticks in a display created by a few friends.

In the end, nobody fell on the ice, hockey was well-represented, and the bride and groom can cherish a memorable day at the rink.

“A lot of people say their wedding day was the best day of their lives. And this exactly was,” said Drew.

Garrett McNamara rode what might possibly be the largest wave ever successfully negotiated during a tow-surfing session Tuesday off the coast of Nazare, a small fishing town 70 miles north of Lisbon, Portugal. The wave face measured “around 90 feet,” according to a news release announcing the feat.

The coastline of Nazare is home to a deep water canyon which funnels large swells from the Atlantic Ocean, creating record-breaking waves such as the one McNamara rode. McNamara, a big-wave surfing icon from Hawaii, was riding large waves in the area with UK surfer Andrew Cotton and Ireland’s Al Mennie as part of a study into why the waves reach such huge heights when three gigantic waves appeared on the outside. Cotton used a personal watercraft to tow McNamara onto the massive shoulder of one of those rogue waves.

Greyson Chance shot to fame singing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi”. Maria Aragon too catapulted into the limelight singing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”. Will Lao Lai Qiao Gaga be the next act to achieve stardom after singing their translated version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”?

As part of the mid-autumn festival celebrations, China’s Hunan TV aired an unique Lady Gaga cover: A choir performance by Lao Lai Qiao GAGA, translated as “Old Folks Going GAGA.”

The performance opened with young girls playing traditional Chinese instruments made of glass, who then made way for the plain-clothes gang of old folks singing jovially to the tune of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” Providing their own lyrics in Mandarin Chinese, the old folks have moving sets and gently choreographed dance moves to make for an odd, but adorable performance.

Despite the smiling seniors, their translated lyrics suggest a life of loneliness as opposed to Lady Gaga’s raunchy lyrics about obsessive romance gone wrong. The choir sings about trying to stay amused in old age and failing to get the attention of their hard-working grown children:

Your working days are too many, you hardly ever come home

At the other end of the phone, you’re always busy with no end in sight

Busy with no end

Busy, busy, busy without end.

Your old folks pass their days learning and finding ways to amuse themselves

Cut back on the little details, but HOLD on to those grand occasions

Have to HOLD on,

Hold, hold, hold, have to HOLD on.

Beloved son, watch the singing on TV

Your father and mother didn’t make any mistakes, did they?

Tonight, HOLD on as you see Mum & Dad within a second GO GAGA!

If you’re satisfied, please stand up and applaud

Don’t make us too nervous

If you’re happy, sing along with us

Give us our moment on stage

Lao Lai Qiao Gaga - Old Folks Going Gaga

With Hunan TV being China’s most popular satellite channel, the performance was seen by millions of Chinese people worldwide. And the video has gone viral. May the force of Lady Gaga be with you!
