It is Christmas again. It is time to pause and reflect on Christmas. What has Christmas meant to you over the years?

Is it the gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, the cards in the mail, turkey dinners with family and friends, snow in the yard, stockings hanging in the living room, and shouts of “Merry Christmas” to those who pass us in the streets? Is this really Christmas?

Many of us have become so swept up in the commercial aspect of the holiday that we’ve strayed a bit from the true meaning of Christmas, forgetting what the meaning of Christmas really is.

True meaning of Christmas

So what is the true meaning of Christmas? Simply put, Christmas is the celebration of Christ’s birthday. His birth meant that the Messiah that Isaiah spoke of had come into the world to save us. People knew even then that the child was special.

Take a step back, take out your Bible, and turn it to Luke. Follow along with Linus as he recites the true meaning of Christmas to Charlie Brown. This is the real story of Christmas.

Click here to view the embedded video.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them,

Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

 LUKE 2:8-14

Christmas literally means the Mass (celebration) of Christ. “Christ” is a Greek word and title, meaning “anointed” or one set apart by God for a special purpose. “Christ” is equivalent to the Hebrew word “Messiah.” Based on the words of ancient prophets, the first century Jewish people expected the arrival of the Messiah promised by God as a great deliver of the people.

Christmas is the festival of the human heart. It is a time of year when all the universe conspires to raise the vibratory level of consciousness on earth to one of peace and love toward ourselves and one another. This season resonates to the sweet, childlike innocence that resides in all of us. A time when the heavenly forces inspire us to shift our focus away from fear and toward one of joy, and healing.

No matter who you are, your heart cannot resist the beauty of an ornamented Christmas tree or the glow of a mysterious menorah. Cynicism gives way to the celebration when carefully preparing holiday sweets or stringing colorful lights around the entrance to your home. Any heart warms to a rousing rendition of “Joy to The World”.

Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in the excitement of knowing about this great event. They knew this was no ordinary baby. The prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before. The star stopped over Bethlehem just to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child.

The true meaning of Christmas

Jesus was born so we might live. Jesus, the son of God, came to earth so we may be set free. The Christ child, the child of light came, so the darkness that covered this world would become extinct. What a beautiful thought we have when we think of this precious sacrifice of His life so all men may have this gift of new birth in each one of us. Without Jesus, we would all die in our sins.

Through the sins of Adam and Eve, we have all inherited that sin nature. We need to have that removed. The only way is through Jesus. Jesus came so He could die on the cross for ALL of our sins. If we believe that Jesus died for our sins, we can ask Him to come into our hearts and forgive us. Then, we are clean and made whole.

We can truly be happy at Christmas! No matter what may be happening, we can know that we are His children. We then become sons and daughters of God. Heaven will be our home one day.

Jesus Is The Reason For The Season! Rejoice!

Will you give Him a room in the Inn of your heart this year?

By the way, I am baffled by the translation of Merry Christmas into Mandarin in the above picture. It shows the Chinese characters for “Kong Hee Fatt Choy” (which essentially means wish you prosperity) which is what the Chinese wish each other during Chinese New Year. It has nothing to do with Christmas. I purposely chose the above picture to illustrate how commercialized Christmas has become.

14-month old Taya Kennedy has become the darling of the child-modelling world.

Taya has Down’s Syndrome but she was selected, not to fulfil a quota, or out of sympathy or adhere to the dictums of some politically-correct code of positive discrimination. Taya was picked because she is a star in her own right, one brimming with the confidence of a natural performer.

14-month-old Taya Kennedy

“Taya is an incredibly photogenic, warm and smiley child, and that shines through in her photographs,” says Alysia Lewis, owner of Urban Angels, the prestigious UK model agency that has signed her up.

We only open our books twice a year and select just a few new children each season.

‘The standard is high; the desire for places strong. Taya is one of 50 children we chose from 2,000 applicants.

“That she has Down’s Syndrome did not enter the equation. We chose her because of her vibrancy and sense of fun. Not all children are comfortable in front of a lens and with a photographer looking at them ” especially when they are so young. But Taya was so relaxed and happy. She was just what we were looking for.”

Retailers, including the Early Learning Centre and Mothercare, are already queuing up to feature the bright-eyed toddler in their advertising campaigns.

And Taya’s devoted mum, Gemma Andre, couldn’t be more proud.

Taya Kennedy with her mum Gemma Andre

The story of Taya, her single-minded mum and proud father Robbie Kennedy is an uplifting one. Gemma, 29, a mortgage adviser with Santander, has never accepted that constraints must be imposed on her daughter because she has a disability.

She believes that her only child is capable of achieving any dream, however elevated.

“Already Taya attends a mainstream nursery,” she says.

Her father and I want her to go to an ordinary school, too. After her birth, I was given a list of things she wouldn’t achieve; accomplishments she could never hope to master.

“It was so dispiriting. I was told her teeth would not all develop. But already she has seven baby teeth. I was warned she would be slow to speak. But she already says “dad, mum, nana, cat and ta”.

So now I take no notice of what the experts say.

‘And I am determined Taya will have as many chances in life as any other child. I want her to go to dancing school. She loves music and has a sense of rhythm; she sways and claps her hands when I sing to her.

‘After her birth, I was given a list of things she wouldn’t achieve; accomplishments she could never hope to master. It was so dispiriting… Now I take no notice of what the experts say,’ said Gemma

“I”m already saving for her to have driving lessons. I have a fund for her to go to university. I want to prove to Taya that any goal in life is attainable. It doesn’t matter that she has Down’s Syndrome. She can still achieve. I want her to be an inspiration to others.”

Taya Kennedy with her mum Gemma Andre

Gemma sounds optimistic because Taya has already defied so many of the experts” other predictions about her future too. Gemma and Robbie have always refused to dwell on the limitations imposed by their daughter’s condition. Instead they have fostered her strengths.

“I was told that children with Down”s Syndrome are not expected to walk until they are three to five years old, ” says Gemma.

But Taya is already standing. She is a strong little character and her physiotherapist has told me that she thinks she will be walking by Christmas.

“Her muscle tone is excellent; just like a normal child’s. So it would be the best present I could have if Taya took her first steps on Christmas Day.”

Taya, however, has not surpassed such milestones by luck alone, for Gemma has exceptional reserves of grit and determination: “I’ve played games with her to develop her muscles; I do exercises with her. She stands on my knees and her little legs are firm. I’ve bought her a toy animal with a swivelling seat that bounces. She shrieks with laughter when she plays on it. She loves it and it also strengthens her legs.”

Supported by her mum, Diane, 58, a social worker whose area of expertise is disabled children, Gemma has discovered that Taya responds well to visual stimulation.

“She likes sensory toys: light tubes, bubbles, mirrors. She reacts positively when we mime to her, so the whole family is learning sign language.”

14-month-old Taya Kennedy

Taya was born in September 2010. Although the pregnancy was not planned, Gemma and her partner of three years Robbie, 23, were delighted.

“I had no debts, a good job; I knew I could give our baby a good quality of life,” she says.

When she gave birth to her 5lb 3oz baby girl, she had no inkling that anything was wrong.

“I remember thinking, ” She has beautiful oval eyes. They look Oriental.” When Robbie cut the cord we both cried with happiness.”

Ten minutes later their joy was abruptly usurped by fear and anxiety.

A doctor told us, “I think she has Down’s Syndrome” and then he just walked away.

From that moment I was mourning for the child I hadn’t had. We couldn’t help but selfishly wonder why this had happened to us. We weren’t prepared for it. We couldn’t celebrate. We felt numb and grief-stricken; just devastated.

Bit by bit, the extent of Taya’s disabilities emerged.

“Down’s Syndrome babies are born with very poor muscle tone. Taya was more floppy than a rag doll. It was as if she had no bones,” recalls Gemma.

She had a single crease in her palm, a gap between her toes and a flat nose that signals sinus problems. She has deficiencies in her sight and hearing, her bowels and heart.

‘Tests showed her heart had two holes in it, but we were told not to worry, that she would be unaffected by the condition. All these things, we knew, were characteristic of Down’s children.

“We didn’t know what to expect or hope for. We were literally sent home with a booklet. But from that moment I knew I had to fight Taya’s corner, to research everything I could about her condition and do all I could to ensure she would have every chance in life.”

She began by challenging the doctors who insisted she would be unable to breastfeed: They dismissed the idea as soon as Taya was born. They said she could not suckle because Down’s children have over-sized tongues and weak jaw muscles.

“But I was determined to prove them wrong. For a month I went to a breast-feeding class. I knew it would boost Taya’s weakened immune system if I fed her. It would also help with her speech because it would strengthen her jaw muscles. I wanted to do all I could to give her the best start. In the end, I breastfed her for nine months.”

Taya, despite her disabilities, has a sunny disposition.

“She wakes up with a smile on her face and goes to sleep smiling. She hardly ever cries,” says her mum. “I was worried at first because she was so peaceful.”

And even when, aged two-and-a-half months, Taya was rushed into hospital for an emergency operation to repair the holes in her heart ” she spent three days in intensive care, her condition critical ” Gemma recalls that she was not only robust and quick to recover, but that her cheerfulness did not falter.

Taya, in turn, has learned to pose for the camera. She beams on cue and is always alert and interested. Even so, Gemma had never thought her little girl ” beautiful though she is ” could be a model.

Taya Kennedy with her mum Gemma Andre

It was her cousin Eletta, 30, who planted the seed in her mind. Eletta is raising five children, her own three and her nine-year-old twin brothers after her mother died in a car crash.

It was Eletta who proposed Gemma look at the Urban Angels’ website. She liked the ethos of the company, its ethnically-diverse range of models and its philosophy of inclusion. Its list of clients was impressive, too.

It provides children for advertising campaigns for a huge range of companies, from Burberry and Stella McCartney to The White Company and GAP, as well as Sainsbury’s, M&S, ASDA and H&M.

“It would not have occurred to me to put Taya forward unless Eletta had suggested it,” says Gemma.

“But I decided to send a couple of pictures I’d taken on my iPhone. There was an application form to fill in, too. No one asked the question, “Is your child disabled?” So I didn’t mention it.

Soon afterwards, I got a call from a woman at the agency who said: “We loved your pictures. Could you come to Manchester with your daughter for a photo shoot? ”

I thought we had nothing to lose. Mum said, “You should tell them Taya has Down’s”, but I decided not to. I didn’t want her to be chosen as the token disabled child. If she was going to be picked, then it had to be on her own merit.

And it was quickly evident that Taya loved the camera. The pictures of her, mesmerised by bubbles, chuckling with glee, resplendent in a frothy white dress, are entrancing.

When she smiles, misconceptions melt away. That is how Taya became the darling of the modelling world.

Why do people like to make fun of blondes?

On one hand, blonde hair in women has been considered attractive and desirable. On the other hand, a blonde woman is often perceived as making little use of intelligence, as a “woman who relied on her looks rather than on intelligence.”

There is an abundance of dumb blonde jokes. Here is a sampling of such jokes:

Dumb Blonde Joke 1

A person went into the office kitchen one morning and found a new blonde girl painting the walls. She was wearing a new fur coat and a nice denim jacket.

Thinking this was a little strange, he asked her why she was wearing them rather than old clothes or an overall.

She showed him the instructions on the tin,

“For best results, put on two coats”.

Dumb Blonde Joke 2

A blonde was driving down the road listening to the radio and was quite upset when she heard blonde joke after blonde joke. A little way down the road, she saw another blonde out in a field rowing a boat. The blonde stopped her car and angrily jumped out yelling,

“You dumb blonde bimbo! It’s blondes like you that give the rest of us a bad name! If I could swim I’d come out there and give you what’s coming to you!”

Dumb Blonde Joke 3

Dumb blonde

So, is there any truth to the dumb blonde stereotype?

Well, if the blonde in the video below is typical of a blonde, then there may be some truth to the dumb blonde stereotype.

This well-dressed blonde shopper has become an internet sensation after she was caught on caught on camera battling the wrong way up an escalator.

Seemingly unaware of her mistake, the blonde casually marches up the steps as bemused passers-by glide past her in the opposite direction.

When her endless trudging seems to be getting her nowhere, she starts fighting to climb the moving stairs while onlookers fail to stifle their giggles.

Eventually, the high-heeled bimbo reaches out her arms and pulls herself up – still completely ignorant of the situation.

After a gruelling 42-second workout, the woman finally makes it to the top and totters off to hit the shops as though nothing has happened.

The hysterical incident was caught on mobile phone at the Saks department store in New York by a fellow shopper who can be heard laughing out loud at the sight.

The amateur footage, dubbed ‘Blonde on an escalator’, has been viewed almost 1.4 million times since it was uploaded to YouTube on November 11 by user ruderuderidee.

She was fitted with a state-of-the-art hearing Esteem implant offered by Envoy Medical nine weeks ago, having spent her whole life in virtual silence. The Esteem implant is embedded in the ear and works through ear drum vibrations, unlike most hearing aids, which use microphones and speakers.

Her husband decided to film her as nurses turned on the implant and Sarah finally heard the world at full volume.

The video has gone viral, garnering more than now 3 million views since it was uploaded to YouTube on September 26.

Click here to view the embedded video.

As a nurse switches the device on and asks if she can tell, Sarah nods in amazement and bursts into tears. She is so overwhelmed she can hardly communicate her feelings, laughing and crying as she covers her face with her hands.

Emmanuel, an Australian originally from Iraq, wowed judges Ronan Keating, Spice Girl Mel Brown, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Guy Sebastian with his heartfelt performance, earning a standing ovation from them as well as the packed audience.

Emmanuel is 17 years old but he doesn’t actually know the exact date he was born. Emmanuel and his brother Ahmed were adopted by Children First Foundation boss Moira Kelly from Iraq, both suffering limb deficiencies as a result of chemical warfare. Ms Kelly is also the guardian of the once-conjoined Bangladeshi twins, Krishna and Trishna.

<img class="size-full wp-image-8808" title="Emmanuel Kelly belts out a song with the support of Moira Kelly and brother Ahmed.
Ronan Keating was full of praise for Emmanuel who has now moved into the next round of competition.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been moved as I was by that performance,” he said.

Emmanuel said it was “more than magic” to be on X Factor”.

“Words could not describe what I was feeling on that stage,” he said.

“When I got up and started singing, there was nothing else. Adrenalin just took over. It was just a blur.”

Emmanuel said his damaged limbs had not held him back and that he was not looking for sympathy.

“I have actually been through nothing compared to some of the other kids I have met and mum has brought out,” he said.

“I don’t want people to look at it (his performance) and go: ‘Wow that is brave.’ I want people to look at me and go, ‘Wow, he has got a really good voice’ or ‘Wow, he is going to go far in life,’ not, ‘Wow, that is brave for him to do that’.”

Yoko Ono, widow of John Lennon, has this message for Emmanuel Kelly:

Thank you, Emmanuel. You sang beautifully!

Thank you. John would have been proud of you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Love, yoko

Welcome to the world of coloured chicks. I mean chicks as in chickens, not the human chicks.

Dyed chicks that come in a kaleidoscope of colour have been trending across the world from Asia in the last few years.

The chicks are sold by street vendors in many Asian countries and even the US, where they attract the attention of passers by with their unnatural bright colors.

Dyed chicks (Photo:smashzFlickr)

Breeders inject a non-toxic dye into the ordinary chicken eggs to produce a psychedelic spectacle when they hatch. The colours last for the first few weeks of the chicks’ life. As the chicks mature, they shed their colors and grow to be normal-looking chickens.

The process was originally devised by scientists to observe the movement of birds in the wild.

The trend has been blasted by the RSPCA in UK who claim it turns living animals into a novelty item.

A kaleidoscope of colors

Dr Marc Cooper, senior scientific officer at the RSPCA, said: “While this is not something we are aware of happening in the UK, the RSPCA would have serious concerns about this sort of practise taking place.

“From a welfare point of view, the use of dye could not only have potential to harm the animal but it also raises ethical questions about how these chicks would be viewed.

“These are living creatures and by dyeing them it would send out the message that they are more of a novelty than a living animal.”

Most people pay for a colored chick and when it grows into a common cockerel, they just get rid of it, a practice that encourages children to view pets like easily replaceable toys they can just throw away when bored.

Dr. Nicholas Gaffga, an US CDC medical epidemiologist, said that dyed chicks are more dangerous than plain yellow chicks. “Many states prohibit the sale of dyed chicks. This is to prevent them from being sold to children as pets,” he said.

Although these dyed chicks look cute, they probably shouldn’t be picked up or played with. When someone handles a chick, which is especially tempting if it’s dyed purple, blue or red, he or she can also pick up salmonella germs, which can result in stomach cramps, diarrhea and fever.

This dream photography is inspired by Enerson’s imagination of what her sleeping baby might be dreaming of at the time.

Adele Enersen and Mila

Adele set up a blog which she named “Mila’s Daydreams” and she posted her dream photography photos on her blog. Her photo blog took off like wildfire, averaging more than 200,000 page views a day. Her blog has gained thousands of followers, featured on ABC News and garnered mention on just about every parenting blog on the planet.

All of the images in Adele Enersen’s dream photography are created around clothing and fabric items like clothes, towels, umbrellas and toys; they include typical dream cliches as well as some abstract visions.

In the photos, Mila may be fishing, playing with pets, hanging on a clothes line, riding a horse or an elephant, playing in blossom as a butterfly, flying as a pink superman, or playing some musical instruments. From creating ideas to implementation and editing, each of the photos is finished within a few minutes.

And like most successful fairy tale endings, there’s a book deal in the works, something Enersen says has always wanted to do. “So while I’m making my daughter’s dreams come true, mine might just happen as well.”

When Mila was born she slept almost 18 hours a day. Most of the pictures that Adele took of her were sleep pictures. Once, Mila fell asleep on the floor in a funny posture, and Adele’s musician husband Lasse Enersen placed a conductor’s baton in her hand and it made her look like a little fencer.

The couple found it very amusing and next day Adele decided to take the idea further, so while Mila was sleeping Adele took some pillows and blankets and created a little forest on the floor, put Mila in the middle and took a photo.

Their friends and family responded to it with glee, so Adele decided to continue making more.

“Well, first I wanted to share my funny baby photos simply with the friends and the family. But soon other people began to discover my blog. The interest has been overwhelming. Now I feel very happy that I can bring a little happiness and joy to someone’s day.”

Korea’s Got Talent contestant Choi Sung-Bong has been hailed as Korea’s Susan Boyle. His outward appearance and demeanor truly belies the true talent he possesses. We shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but we often do just that.

When 22-year-old Sung-Bong took to the stage on Korea’s Got Talent, I think the audience and the judges did not expect much from him. He started off by sharing his inspirational story.

Choi Sung-Bong - The Korean Susan Boyle

“When I was three years old, I went to an orphanage, but because of the beatings, I ran away when I was five and lived alone by selling gum on the streets. For ten years, I lived like a fly. I was eventually able to graduate elementary and middle school through qualification examinations and the first thing that I ever liked was music.”

Choi Sung-Bong is a manual worker – his lowly profession is laughed at by the audience in the studio, and is slightly mocked by one of the judges – who has lived alone basically his entire life.

Choi said: “I just want to be like a normal person. I don’t sing that well but when I do sing, I feel like a different person.”

Modestly, he says he sings because he likes it, not because he is any good.

Sung-Bong then went on to sing Sarah Brightman’s “Nella Fantasia”, shocking the studio audience and the judges with his powerful voice and reducing some of them to tears. He was accorded a standing ovation after his performance.

"I just want to give you a hug," said one of the judges with tears in her eyes.

The English translation of the Italian song goes like this:

In my imagination I see a fair world,

Everyone lives in peace and in honesty there.

I dream of souls that are always free,

Like the clouds that fly,

Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

In my imagination I see a bright world,

Even the night is less dark there.

I dream of souls that are always free,

Like clouds that fly.

In my imagination there exists a warm wind,

That breathes on the cities, like a friend.

I dream of souls that are always free,

Like clouds that fly,

Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.
