Donner Summer may have had her ‘Last Dance’ here on earth, but ‘Heaven Knows’ it is dancing with joy for her arrival.
Yes, disco queen Summer, whose sultry voice and pulsing rhythms defined the 1970s disco era, died yesterday morning at her home in Key West, Florida at age 63 following a battle with lung cancer. Summer is survived by her husband Bruce Sudano, their daughters Brooklyn and Amanda, as well as her daughter Mimi from her previous marriage.

Simoncelli, 24, who had his helmet knocked off in the crash, lay motionless on the track. American Edwards also fell but escaped without serious injury, while former multi-world champion Rossi was able to return to the pits on his Ducati.
Today is truly a sad day. The flame of life was extinguished for two young girls – one in China and the other in Singapore.
Wang Yue, the Chinese girl left bleeding on the road after being run over by two different vehicles and then ignored by 18 passersby, has finally died.
Yue Yue has succumbed to the horrific brain injuries sustained in the accident
The case of two-year-old Wang , also known as Yue Yue, triggered a furore worldewide. It is truly appalling that such callousness could occur and many incensed netizens blasted China, condemning it for becoming an ‘immoral modern society’. In Singapore, six-year-old Charmaine Lim lost her battle against neuroblastoma, a rare type of cancer. Over the past two and half years, Charmaine fought a courageous battle against the cancer. Singaporeans rallied to help raise funds for her to go to the US for treatment. Despite her sufferings, she took things in her stride, earning her the nickname Feisty Princess Charmaine.
Remember Awana Diab? If the name does not ring a bell, he is the the UAE footballer who shot to fame (or notoriety) after scoring a penalty shot taken with his backheel.
Sad to say, he died in a car crash yesterday after a training session.
The 21-year-old midfielder became an internet sensation in July thanks to a cheeky spot-kick in his country’s 7-2 win over Lebanon.
He had only been on the pitch of the Khalifa bin Zayed Stadium for three minutes when he stepped up to the penalty spot to take a penalty kick. In a shocking move, he turned 180 degrees and back-heel the ball into the net, catapulting him into the ranks of the other penalty-taking legends such Antonin Panenka.
Awana Diab executing his backheel penalty kick
Though he became an internet sensation, he also earned the unwanted epithet of football’s number one idiot. For his unorthodox spot kick, he was issued a yellow card and was branded ‘disrespectful’ by his team manager as well as earning the wrath of some sports commentators who panned his feat as one of the most unsportsmanlike, arrogant actions ever seen in international football.
To relive that famous penalty goal, watch the video player below.
Nine-year-old Rachel Beckwith did not want presents for her June 12 birthday. All she wanted were donations to the non-profit Charity Water. Her wish was to raise $300 for the charity that funds projects in 19 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
On a website set up by Rachel and her mother before her birthday, she explained the inspiration for her project.
“I found out that millions of people don’t live to see their 5th birthday,” Rachel wrote. “And why? Because they didn’t have access to clean, safe water so I’m celebrating my birthday like never before. I’m asking from everyone I know to donate to my campaign instead of gifts for my birthday. Every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund freshwater projects in developing nations.”
Rachel had only raised $220 by her June 12 birthday, so she closed the page.
On July 20, Rachel sustained serious spinal and head injuries in a massive 13-car pileup on Interstate 90 in Bellevue, Washington. She was traveling in a Lexus Sedan with her 2-year-old sister Sienna while with her mother Samantha Paul on the steering wheel. Rachel was on life support after the accident but sadly, on July 23, she was taken off life support. Her mother and 2-year-old sister were also in the car, but survived.
RIP, little angel Rachel Beckwith
Rachel’s pastor at Eastlake Community Church, Ryan Meeks, asked the charity to re-activate her fundraising page for anyone who wished to donate in her honor.
As news of Rachel’s cause spread, more and more people donated to Rachel’s page, touched by her selflessness.
Donations to her cause have swelled since her death to more than $520,000as I am writing this post, with gifts pouring in from almost 15,000 people, many in gifts of $9 each.
Donors wrote on Rachel’s page that they were touched and humbled by her generosity, calling her an angel.
“What great things can be accomplished by the wish of a little girl,” wrote a donor who identified herself as Leann Groby.
On Monday, Rachel’s mom, Samantha Paul, who was also injured in the accident, thanked donors on Rachel’s online charity page for their generosity.
“I am in awe of the overwhelming love to take my daughter’s dream and make it a reality. In the face of unexplainable pain you have provided undeniable hope,” Paul wrote. “I know Rachel is smiling!”
Rachel’s fundraising campaign has quickly become the largest in the history of “charity: water,” which raises the bulk of its money through pages like the one Rachel created, where a person asks their friends and family to donate for a special event or in their honor, said spokeswoman Sarah Cohen. A number of donors were inspired to start their own “charity: water” pages.
The charity says each $20 donation is enough to give one person access to safe, clean water for 20 years. In the past five years, the New York-based charity has raised $48 million and supported 3,962 water projects.
“We’ve all been so deeply moved by Rachel’s unselfishness,” said “charity:water” founder Scott Harrison, who used his own 34th and 35th birthdays to raise money to bring clean drinking water to Africa. Rachel had been inspired to support the charity after Harrison spoke at her church.
If you wish to do your part in Rachel’s honor, go to her donation site here.
What a gift from God Rachel’s charity will be for so many people who will never know her.
You are an angel and an inspiration to the whole world. You have shown the world what a single person can do. RIP, little angel!
The very talented but troubled pop star Amy Winehouse was been found dead yesterday afternoon at her flat in Camden, north London, after a suspected drug overdose at the age of just 27.
Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was an English singer-songwriter, known for her powerful contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B, soul, and jazz.
After the wayward star collapsed at her flat, friends called the London Ambulance Service immediately but she died though help arrived in under 5 minutes. One friend said the singer, who had spent years battling heroin and alcohol addiction, had been taking ecstacy.
Amy's body removed from her home
Amy’s distraught father Mitch Winehouse, a taxi driver and part-time singer, had predicted his daughter would die if she didn’t quit booze and drugs.
The weeping father said: “This isn’t real… I’m completely devastated. I’m coming home. I have to be with Amy. I can’t crack up for her sake.”

Amy’s death has been described as “unexplained” by the police. But the singer, who had the world at her feet after her massively successful 2006 album Back to Black, had been battling alcohol and drug addiction.
Her death has been met with shock among the music world and an outpouring of grief from fans worldwide.
Tribute near Amy Winehouse's home in North London
Her pal Kelly Osbourne tweeted: “i cant even breath right my now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!”
Ex Premier Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah said on Twitter: “Sad, sad news of Amy Winehouse – great talent, extraordinary voice, and tragic death. Condolences to her family.”
Four days ago the singer, brought up in nearby Southgate by mum Janis, had appeared alongside her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield at the iTunes festival at the Camden Roudhouse where she urged the crowd to buy the young singer's album . Fans were delighted to see Amy, who stormed on stage and danced with the young artist. They said she seemed in great spirits.

That public appearance came after a string of incidents that alarmed friends. In May she admitted herself to The Priory clinic in South-West London and was pictured swigging a bottle of vodka moments before she arrived.
Weeks later her European tour was cancelled after a shambolic performance in Belgrade, Serbia, where she staggered on stage an hour late, appearing drunk and incoherent. Her 'performance' was booed by 20,000 irate fans - some who paid a week's salary to see her. Scores walked out in disgust. Then she told friends ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, blamed for getting her hooked on hard drugs, was the only one who could save her.

She acknowledged struggling with eating disorders and told a newspaper that she had been diagnosed as manic depressive but refused to take medication. She became more famous for her erratic behaviour, cancelled concerts and drink-and-drug-fuelled nights than her music. Amy also appeared unhealthily thin, with scabs on her face and marks on her arms, wearing scruffy clothes. Her distinctive jet-black beehive hairstyle, thick eye make-up and many tattoos were her trademark.
She wed Blake Fielder-Civil in May 2007 in Miami. It is alleged that he introduced the Back to Black star to heroin and crack cocaine. The two were also known to be violent with each other when intoxicated. They divorced in August 2009.

The star had a troubled on-off relationship with Libertines singer Pete Doherty. The pair posted embarrassing videos on the internet, one of them playing with newborn mice.

Recently Amy found love with horror film director Reg Traviss — and promised to come up with her long-awaited third album this year.

Just hours before her death by her management team released a statement saying: “Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances.”
Amy joins the notorious '27 Club' of musicians who have died at that age after struggling to cope with fame.
Other famous singers who all died at the same age of 27 include Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who shot himself in 1994, Rolling Stones star Brian Jones, who drowned in a swimming pool in 1969, guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who choked to death in 1970 after mixing wine with sleeping pills, Doors star Jim Morrison, who died of heart failure in 1971, and singer Janis Joplin, who suffered a suspected heroin overdose in 1969.
Amy is survived by her father, Mitchell, mother, Janis, and older brother, Alex.
In her short lifetime, Amy Winehouse too often made headlines because of drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, destructive relationships and abortive performances. Her small but powerful body of recorded music will be her legacy.
South Korea’s MBC Plus Sports anchorwoman Song Ji Sun committed suicide by jumping from her 19th floor apartment in Seocho-dong, southern Seoul, at 1.44 pm KST today.
Song Ji Sun
Song, 30, was found unconscious and bleeding by a janitor of the building and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Song hit the media spotlight on May 7 when a posting on her Tweeter, implying her intention to commit suicide, prompted police officers and 119 emergency workers to rush to her residence. In a later posting, she denied writing the first posting, although admitting that she contemplated killing herself over personal issues.
Song had been ensnared in a love scandal with professional baseball player Im Tae Hoon, for which she was suspended temporarily from the announcer’s role on a daily baseball program on MBC Sports Plus. MBC Sports Plus was scheduled to announce punishment measures against her regarding the scandal yesterday afternoon.
In a recent interview with a local media outlet, Song admitted that she had been dating the 23-year-old pitcher for the Seoul-based Doosan Bears, for one and a half years. However, the Doosan Bears claimed the love affair between Im and Song was not true and that Im Tae Hoon just wanted to be fully devoted to baseball. Im, demoted to the Bears’ minor league team after the scandal made tabloid headlines, returned to his original position on the Bears yesterday.
The hurt and feelings of humiliation arising from the scandal may have deeply depressed Song, triggering her suicide.
After Song’s death, the internet has been abuzz with postings criticizing Im Tae Hoon and holding him responsible for Song’s death.
Im Tae Hoon
On the 7th of this month, Song had written, “If you cannot take me to you, please at least give me strength. My heart is in such pain, I am already on my third sleeping pill.”
Her last post written on the 21st of this month read, “I am steering clear of the internet lately. My words… I am so sorry. I’m not that good with computers so I don’t know how to delete my account. I’d first like to tweet my apology. I’m so sorry, but really, my Cyworld isn’t the truth. I’ll reveal the truth soon.”
Another life has ended so tragically. …… our society has once again pushed another pretty Korean woman off a cliff.
US professional wrestling legend “Macho Man” Randy Savage, 58, died after a car crash on Friday near his home in Seminole, Florida.
Macho Man Randy Savage
The flamboyant former champion — known for his husky voice, gaudy costumes and “oooh, yeah!” catch phrase — appeared to have suffered a heart attack behind the wheel, leading to him losing control of his 2009 Jeep Wrangler at 9:25 a.m. local time.
The Jeep careened over a concrete median into oncoming traffic lanes before crashing head-on into a tree. Randy was rushed to the Largo Medical centre in Tampa, Florida but later succumbed to injuries sustained in the impact.
The wrestler, whose full name was Randy Mario Poffo, and his wife Lynn Payne, who was a passenger in the car, were both wearing seat belts. Lynn was hospitalized with minor injuries. The couple had just been celebrating their first anniversary.

Tributes quickly poured in from WWE and the WWE icon’s peers and fans after news broke on the American website TMZ.
“WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time,” read a statement posted on the WWE site on Friday. “Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife Lynn. Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans.”
TNA also paid tribute, putting a message on the website saying: “TNA hopes all of our fans remember Randy Savage’s amazing life and career and how he helped shape the sport as we know it today.”
Once a minor league baseball player, Savage became a big part of Vince McMahon’s WWE expansion alongside stars including Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant and Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. Under contract with the World Wrestling Federation from 1985 to 1993, he shot to fame as “Macho Man”, competing against fellow stars including Hulk Hogan, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Jake “The Snake” Roberts. His entrance music was “Pomp and Circumstance” and his signature accessories were sunglasses, bandannas and colorful cowboy hats.
Colorful Randy Savage
After a run as Intercontinental Champion, Savage took the next step one year later – winning a 14-man tournament at WrestleMania IV to lift the WWE World Championship. On that one show, he defeated Butch Reed, Greg Valentine, One Man Gang and DiBiase.
At the time he was managed by real-life wife Elizabeth and teaming with Hulk Hogan as The Mega Powers. Both relationships dissolved in the following year when The Mega Powers exploded. Savage lost the title to Hogan at WrestleMania V, but his 371-day reign stands as the sixth longest of all time.
Randy Savage and his first wife Elizabeth
Changing his name to The Macho King, and now managed by Sensational Queen Sherri Martel, Savage enjoyed another career high at WrestleMania VII – putting on an incredible match with The Ultimate Warrior that had a retirement stipulation. Savage lost, but what happened after the match has become the most endearing feel good moment in wrestling. While he was down in the wrestling ring, his manager Martel was kicking him…it was one of the lowest points in his career. Then Miss Elizabeth ran into the ring from the crowd and fought Martel off. Savage and Elizabeth embraced in a moment that brought tears to the eyes of many in attendance.
Randy Savage reunited with Elizabeth after his defeat at Wrestlemania VII
Randy was back wrestling by the end of that year – ‘marrying’ Miss Elizabeth at SummerSlam 1991 and then entering a strong programme with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts.
He won the WWE Championship for a second time at WrestleMania VIII.
From 1994, Savage became part of WCW – feuding with the likes of Ric Flair, Hogan, Lex Luger and Diamond Dallas Page. He won the WCW Heavyweight Title on four occasions.
Randy made his last WCW appearance in 2000, had a brief stint in TNA in 2004 but never returned to the WWE and has never been inducted into their Hall of Fame. It is said that Savage is the only wrestler Vince McMahon has flat out refused to work with, although the exact reason for the mammoth fall-out remains speculation.
His match with Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania III is still held up today, more than 24 years later, as arguably the best bout of all time.
Wrestlemania III Randy Savage versus Ricky the Dragon Steamboat
Miss Elizabeth - who Savage married in 1984 and divorced in 1992 - was found dead in 2003 from a drug overdose at the home of Luger, who was her boyfriend at the time.
Randy's brother Lanny Poffo, better known to WWE fans as The Genius, and dad Angelo Poffo were both also wrestlers. Angelo passed away last year aged 84.
Hulk Hogan, in his tribute to the Macho Man, said: "I'm completely devastated, after over 10 years of not talking with Randy, we've finally started to talk and communicate.
"He had so much life in his eyes and in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him."
The Rock told fans on Twitter: "RIP Randy Savage - you were one of my childhood inspirations and heroes.
Savage will be remembered as one of the greatest wrestlers and a key reason behind the early success of the WWE.
It is so sad and tragic….another teenager has committed suicide.
Krystal Aki Mizoguchi , a sweet 18-year-old student of Yishun Junior College, ended her life by jumping from her 9th floor flat in Ang Mo Kio HDB 5 on Saturday evening. She was found dead at the foot of her apartment block at about 7.40pm dressed in blue jeans and beige jacket.
Krystal Aki Mizoguchi
Mizoguchi, of Sino-Japanese parentage, grew up in a single-parent family as her Chinese mum and her Japanese dad have separated. She had been living with her 17-year-old brother and her mum in a three-room flat.
Mizoguchi’s brother was on his way home when he saw police cordoning off the area. He proceeded to his flat, not realizing that her sister had committed suicide. Upon seeing her sister’s suicide note on the table in their flat, he rushed downstairs. Kneeling beside her sister’s body, he broke down and wept uncontrollably. After regaining his composure, he called their mother. Mizoguchi’s father could not be contacted the whole night.
Mizoguchi would have turned 19 next month and was waiting to start class at a private university after finishing a five-month stint as a temporary clerk at the Ministry of Education.
It is believed that she decided to end her life due to depression from the breakup with her boyfriend as well as failing to achieve her dream of getting into her dream university NUS. She is known to have begun dating since she was 13 years old and since then neglected her studies.
Photos on Mizoguchi’s Facebook show her to be like any other teenager, seemingly enjoying her life.

However, the last entry on her blog “Crash and Burn”, dated March 5 this year, was entitled “Dreams” and she wrote about her broken dreams after poor A-Level exam results.
PSLE, I fucked up. Couldn’t get into dream secondary school.
‘O’ Levels, I fucked up. Couldn’t get a place in dream polytechnic course. Ended up transferring to YJC.
I got my dreams crushed again, after seeing my ‘A’ Levels grades yesterday. Bye bye to NUS FASS and NTU Humanities.
I already predicted my grades but it felt so real when I saw the statement of results.
It was depressing to browse the SIM GE programmes. Stuck with courses like accountancy and economics
Today is a sad day in Miri as the city buried one of its daughters. More than a thousand mourners gathered at a funeral service at St Joseph Cathedral for murdered 17-year-old Tiffany Wong. Tears filled the eyes of many present as they witnessed the sorrow of Tiffany’s family. Tiffany’s parents deeply touched the hearts of those present when they said that they have forgiven the boy who killed their daughter.
Tiffany, who obtained multiple As in the SPM examination results announced last week, was found dead in bushes on the outskirts of this city last Friday, with her head wrapped in a plastic bag and her body partially buried in a drain in Bakam sub-district, some 40km from here.
The police were led there by a 17-year-old boy who had surrendered himself at the Miri Central Police Station. He was accompanied to the station by his parents. The teenager, a student of an institute of higher learning here, has been detained for further investigation. It is believed that the boy had badly beaten Tiffany before strangling her as her face was swollen with bruises and there were injuries on her chest.
Tiffany, an ex- student of St Joseph Secondary School Miri, was reported missing last Thursday from her home, a day after the SPM results were announced. On that day, Tiffany’s mum had seen Tiffany getting into the boy’s car supposedly to go to their school to get their SPM results.
Her murder shocked the whole city. Many netizens, appalled by the heinous crime, called for the death penalty for the 17-year-old boy.
Yesterday something magical happened at the house of Tiffany. Many believe that Tiffany came home, as a bird, to bid farewell to her family.
A bird landed on one of the many floral wreaths and remained there the whole day. When Tiffany’s mom went over to talk to the bird, the bird hopped onto her hand. It listened to what Tiffany’s mom had to say and responded by chipping. The miraculous event was captured in photos by someone present. These photos were posted on MiriCommunity.net by someone using the name JongawOlya. Thanks, JongawOlya!

According to some reports, the bird flew off today after Tiffany’s mum said to the bird that it was time for it to go. Anyway the bird was no longer at the house when Tiffany’s family returned from the funeral.
This little poem is dedicated to the memory of Tiffany:
Light a candle for Tiffany for whom we mourn.
Into a new life she will be born.
Do not look for her at the gravesite.
She is somewhere else radiating her beautiful light.
She has gone to a new world where there is no darkness, no pain.
Her light and essence will always remain.

RIP now, Tiffany, for you will be by God’s side soon. You will be greatly missed by your family and friends!
