Sand & Stone

June 6, 2009

Two friends were on a journey in a desert. At some point in their journey, they had an argument and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

The one who got slapped felt hurt but without saying anything, he wrote on the sand: “Today my best friend slapped me in the face.”

They continued their journey until they came to an oasis where they decided to have a bathe.

The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started to drown but was saved by his friend.

After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: “Today my best friend saved my life.”

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, ” After I had slapped you, you wrote in the sand and now you wrote on the stone. Why?”

The friend replied, “When someone hurts us we should write it in the sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it on stone so no wind can erase it.”

Learn to live this way and you will life to be more fulfilling and meaningful. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate that person, a day to love that person but an entire life to forget that person.
