Singer-actress Selina Ren aka Jen Chia-Hsüan of the popular Taiwanese group S.H.E. and her co-star Yu Hao Ming were seriously injured due to a premature explosion on the set of her new television drama “I Have A Date With Spring” in Shanghai on October 22. They were both rushed to the hospital, and it was later announced that they suffer from 3rd degree burns.
HIM Records posted the following message on their website:
“Thank you for everyone’s concern on Selina’s injury during the filming of her drama! Selina received burns from an accident this afternoon while filming an explosion scene in Shanghai. Her condition is currently stable after she has been taken to the hospital. She is currently resting. ”
Executives from the TV company, Selina’s dad and her fiancé flew to Shanghai right away to be by her side. Selina’s SHE partners Hebe and Ella were also notified immediately.
HIM Records executive Derek Shih provided additional updates on his blog: Selina is suffering from 3rd degree burns on her arms, legs and back which will require skin grafts. Her family and doctors are discussing the possibility of transporting her back to Taiwan for further treatment. They have submitted a request with the International SOS (same medical service that flew cameraman Ko Chang back home after he was shot in India.)
Shih explained that the accident happened around 4pm on the 22nd of this month. The explosives went off early during a scene which resulted in the accident. They had rehearsed 6 to 7 times prior to filming without any problems. The heroic Yu immediately threw himself over Selina when the accident occurred, causing him to suffer injuries more serious than Selina’s.
Fortunately for Selina, her face did not suffer any burns from the accident.
S.H.E is a Taiwanese girl group whose members are Selina Ren, Hebe Tien, and Ella Chen. The name of the group is derived from the first letter of each member’s name.
Yu Hao Ming is a mandarin pop singer from Guangzhou, China. He recently rose to fame due to his appearance on the Chinese singing competition Superboy (2007), on which he placed 6th nationwide. His unique voice and idol image have propelled his popularity to equal those of established singers.
Accompanied by her father and fiance, Selina was flown back to Taipei Songshan Airport on a direct cross-strait flight on Taiwan’s Trans Asia Airways from Hongqiao Airport in Shanghai.
Selina is out of danger and has regained consciousness and taken foods, her father Jen Ming-ting told the press. He said that his daughter was in stable condition but that it might take her months to recover, declining to provide details of her burns. The pop star suffered third-degree burns over up to 40 per cent of her body.
Selina will need skin transplant surgery and recuperation, said Jen. He thanked the concern expressed by Selina’s friends and fans.
“I wish I could endure the suffering for her, even at the cost of my life,” her father — known to fans simply as Father Jen — told reporters shortly after his daughter was rushed to the Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital outside Taipei.
“May Heaven have mercy on her.”
Selina was scheduled to get married next April. Her fiance is a legal counsel at a major insurance firm in Taiwan.
S.H.E member Ella Chen wrote on Sina on Sunday: “Ham, you need to also hang in there. I will pray for you. Hope you get better soon, so you can continue to do your best for yourself and the ones you love.”
